Blessing within Trials

Most  All recent posts have been about our little guy-- his condition/trials ahead or about Grandpa P-- with his own trials. Yet, I want to stop and highlight our blessings that we have found within these last 4 months, though it seems like an eternity. Mr. P gave a beautifully heartfelt testimony last fast sunday about this very topic. I, on the other hand, didn't heed to the small "feeling" during that meeting, but decided I should none the less share my thoughts. So this post will form as a result:
It is so easy to focus on the here and now. To be swept away with our daily tasks, chores, assignments, demands of life as men and women, husband and wives, even as children. It is especially true when you have outside "stressors"-- illness, cancer, jobless, death, financial, etc (we aren't facing all of these, just trying to incorporate many different scenarios here, so bear with me).

So we just need to take a minute to recognize and review our blessings.

Here is our list:
1) Mild Winter, so mild it feels like it is still fall, which means non-snowy roads
-- Makes the 4 hour drive easier
2)We prayed that whatever "condition" Jack was born with, let it be mild
--He may have the most severe case of bilateral clubfoot, but has a VERY mild case of Arthrogryposis,
which is such a huge blessing and could easily be overlooked
3)Grandpa P diagnosed with colon cancer
--we were given family time with him because of our weekly appointments with Shriners.
4)Starting a New job and moving away from family/loved ones
-- being a part of a great community of support (Fiddlers Canyon Ward) and feeling needed
it makes hard times easier when you are given the opportunity to serve and look outside yourself.
5)Adjusting to life with TWO kids (Toddler and newborn w/birth defects)
--learning unconditional love and how to lean on your spouse for support

There is also the realization that people all over the world our fighting their own trials-- ones I myself would never want to face or endure. This fact doesn't discount our families own hardships or obstacles, but provides the opportunity to empathize and be aware of those that are weak and heavy laden.

We still seize the day to play in the snow and enjoy our sunshine...
But more importantly we take the time to just enjoy one another. For we are so Blessed.
What are the blessings in your life? I love this idea...
maybe we will try it in the next coming weeks.

  1. I have had some similar thoughts. How I wish I cold shelter you all from hardships, but I know that is also very selfish. The blessings would be missed and the needed growth wouldn't happen. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
